cs student here. looking for side income while in college π°
been doing freecodecamp and want to start taking small projects.
questions:
- which platforms are best for beginners?
- how much should i charge as a student?
- how to avoid getting scammed?
any tips from people who’ve done this? really need the money lol π
college student learning to code here π
i use Cursor and it’s been a GAME CHANGER for learning.
like, i can see what the AI is doing and actually learn from it? that’s huge for beginners.
windurf looks cool but haven’t tried. CoDev seems too complicated for me lol
for newbies: just start with Cursor. free tier is generous enough.
btw anyone know if these work for learning or just for “real” devs? genuinely asking π
newbie dev here (3 months into learning!)
i started with React because “that’s what jobs want” but honestly? Vue made way more sense to me.
the docs are SO much better. i actually understood what was happening without wanting to cry π
my advice for beginners:
don’t pick based on jobs. pick based on what makes sense to YOU.
if React clicks β React
if Vue clicks β Vue
you can always learn the other one later. the fundamentals transfer.
also Angular is fine for enterprise but felt like learning a whole new language to me lol
hey guys! student here with limited budget π
i’ve been using free tiers of all three for my side project. here’s my experience:
Vercel – super easy to deploy, loved it. but hit bandwidth limits pretty fast
Netlify – forms are great but kept having build issues
Railway – actually the best free tier IMO, database included!
for a student MVP, i’d say Railway. you can actually ship something for free without hitting limits immediately.
hope this helps other students lol π«‘
omg this thread is giving me flashbacks to my 2024 crisis π
i tried so many apps lol
TL;DR:
- Notion – pretty, easy, but feels like everything collapses sometimes
- Obsidian – game changer once it clicks, local = yours forever
- Apple Notes – honestly underrated, fast, works well with Apple ecosystem
i ended up using Obsidian for knowledge + Apple Notes for quick stuff
but honestly? the best note-taking app is the one you’ll actually use. i know people who swear by evernote and they’re happy lol
don’t be like me and spend months testing apps. just pick one and start writing βοΈ
hi! i’m writing my thesis and was SO confused about this too π
basically what i figured out:
- Notion = good for structured stuff, easy to learn, but privacy concerns for thesis??
- Obsidian = local first, connect ideas with links, STEEP learning curve but worth it
- Craft = pretty apple vibes, limited export options
i ended up going with Obsidian because my advisor said local is safer and the linking feature is π₯ for literature review
but honestly? just pick one and START. don’t spend weeks deciding like i did lol
happy to share my vault structure if you want! π
Hey everyone!
I’m a freelance dev looking to switch from raw VS Code to an AI-powered setup.
Been hearing a lot about:
– Cursor
– Windsurf (formerly Codeium)
– CoDev
Which one is actually worth the subscription???
I mainly do:
– React/Next.js frontend
– Some Node.js backend
– Occasional Python scripts
Budget is fine if the tool is good enough lol
Thanks in advance! π
