Hey everyone!
I’m a freelance UI designer trying to pick a design tool for 2026.
Currently torn between:
– Figma (everyone seems to use it)
– Sketch (been using it for years)
– Adobe XD (already have Adobe suite)
My situation:
– Mainly do web + mobile UI
– Work solo (freelancer)
– Budget is okay if it’s worth it
– Need good handoff to developers
Anyone made this switch recently? What would you recommend for a solo designer?
Thanks in advance!
daily Figma user here. used Sketch for 4 years before switching.
my take:
- Figma – best overall. browser = works anywhere. $15/mo is nothing.
- Sketch – mac only, stopped innovating. why?
- Adobe XD – adobe killed it. literally no reason to use.
just use Figma. every design job listing asks for it. you’re not doing yourself any favors by learning something else.
dev here who’s used all three since 2019. short answer: Figma unless you have a specific reason not to.
Why Figma wins:
- browser-first = works everywhere
- real-time collab is just better
- way more plugins/resources
- their AI features in 2026 are actually useful now
Sketch: mac only, was king before Figma ate its lunch
Adobe XD: adobe killed it, just move on lol
save yourself the analysis paralysis and just use Figma. literally every team i know uses it.
Quick framework:
1. **Solo + Free** → Figma (no-brainer)
2. **Mac power user** → Sketch
3. **Adobe ecosystem** → You’d still be better off with Figma
**ROI perspective:**
Figma = free for solo = $0 investment
Sketch = $99/year = worth it only if you love it
Adobe XD = save your money
For handoff to devs: Figma wins. Every dev team I’ve worked with prefers Figma.
What matters most to you? That should drive the decision.
