Hey everyone!
I’m a freelance dev looking to switch from raw VS Code to an AI-powered setup.
Been hearing a lot about:
– Cursor
– Windsurf (formerly Codeium)
– CoDev
Which one is actually worth the subscription???
I mainly do:
– React/Next.js frontend
– Some Node.js backend
– Occasional Python scripts
Budget is fine if the tool is good enough lol
Thanks in advance! 🙏
college student learning to code here 👋
i use Cursor and it’s been a GAME CHANGER for learning.
like, i can see what the AI is doing and actually learn from it? that’s huge for beginners.
windurf looks cool but haven’t tried. CoDev seems too complicated for me lol
for newbies: just start with Cursor. free tier is generous enough.
btw anyone know if these work for learning or just for “real” devs? genuinely asking 😅
windsurf user here. switched from Cursor 3 months ago.
honest comparison:
- Cursor – great code completion, agent mode is solid, but sometimes aggressively refactors stuff i didn’t want changed
- Windsurf – more conservative, better at following my lead. the flow is nicer
- CoDev – haven’t tried, seems cool but ecosystem is smaller
for serious dev work, i’d pick Windsurf. for speed, Cursor.
both are good tho, can’t go wrong 🤷
lmaooo i use cursor everyday for work and honestly? it’s worth the hype 😂
like yeah windsurf is catching up and co-dev seems cool but cursor just WORKS for me
the agent mode in cursor is actually insane – it can refactor whole files without breaking stuff (most of the time 💀)
but fr don’t overthink it. just try cursor for a week and see if it clicks. different tools work for different brains 🧠
also the gaming setup for coding is important too lol – i code faster when my RGB is on point 🎮
