been designing for 10 years. here are my non-negotiable tools:

must-haves:

  • Figma – obviously
  • Coolors – color palettes in seconds
  • Remove.bg – bg removal that actually works
  • Ray.so – mockups without the headache
  • Google Fonts – free, reliable

controversial take: you don’t need paid tools to make great designs.

most of these are free. skills > tools.

as a founder who designs (badly), these are lifesavers.

my addition: Figma’s free tier is actually generous enough for most use cases.

we used the free tier for 6 months before upgrading. no reason to pay until you have real revenue.

as someone who can’t design to save my life, these are gold ✨

especially Remove.bg. used it for my stream overlays and people thought i paid someone lol

also adding Photopea – free Photoshop alternative. works in browser.

skills > tools but these make skills look better 😂
