Startup founder here! Our team of 5 needs a better way to track tasks and projects.
We’ve tried Notion but it feels slow for project management. Looking at Linear and Jira now:
- Linear – Looks beautiful, fast, but is it feature-complete?
- Jira – Enterprise standard but complex?
- Notion – We already use it but it’s not great for PM
What are you using? Any recommendations for a small but growing team? 💪
Jira veteran here! 👴
Been using Jira for 8 years at big companies. It’s powerful but yeah, the UX is rough.
Here’s the thing – if you’re a small team, don’t torture yourself with Jira. The setup time alone is insane.
My recommendations:
- 5-20 people: Linear or Notion
- 50+ people: Jira (you’ll need the complexity)
- Notion: Only if you already live in Notion
Don’t use Jira unless you have to. Trust me. 😅
Linear all the way! 🎯
Our startup switched from Jira to Linear last month and it’s been amazing:
Pros:
- Blazing fast UI – Jira feels like a dinosaur
- Beautiful design that your team will actually want to use
- Great keyboard shortcuts
- Solid integrations (GitHub, Slack, etc)
Cons:
- No time tracking built-in (but we use Toggl)
- Smaller than Jira so fewer integrations
For a team of 5-50, Linear is perfect. Jira is overkill. 👀
