building a new SaaS and need to pick a backend.

considering these three:

  • Supabase – open source, PostgreSQL, getting popular
  • Firebase – Google, easy, but NoSQL…
  • MongoDB Atlas – flexible, good free tier

what’s the move in 2026? looking for real production use cases.

startup founder here. we chose Supabase and never looked back.

reasons:

  • PostgreSQL = every dev knows it
  • open source = not dependent on one company
  • auth + storage + edge functions = everything we need

Firebase felt like a walled garden. NoSQL query pain is real.

dev who’s used all three in production:

  • Supabase – my pick. PostgreSQL is real SQL, open source, great DX
  • Firebase – easy start, NoSQL pain later. Google might kill it.
  • MongoDB – flexible, but overkill for most apps

2026 pick: Supabase. real database, real queries, good free tier.
